Taxonomic remark n.n. pro Danea Morgenroth 1968 nec Danaea Smith 1793 (plant), Preoccupied in botanical nomenclature (Nomen. Zool.). Fensome et al., 1993, considered that Danea P. Morgenroth was sufficiently close in spelling to Danaea J.E. Smith, 1793 (Pteridophyta) to be treated as a homonym, and proposed the replacement name Damassadinium R.A. Fensome, F.J.R. Taylor, G. Norris, W.A.S. Sarjeant, D.I. Wharton & G.L. Williams, 1993. However the botanical Code (2018 edition) states: "53.2. When two or more names of genera or species based on different types are so similar that they are likely to be confused because they are applied to related taxa or for any other reason) they are to be treated as homonyms" and DINOFLAJ3 retains Danea following Index Nominum Algarum, which treats Damassadinium as an illegitimate, superfluous name (Danea not homonym of Danaea J.E. Smith 1793 (Pteridophyta)). [details]
