Taxonomic remark Andersen, 1987 erected class Synurophyceae for silica scaled chrysophytes (order Synurales) previously included in Chrysophyceae, and the class is currently accepted in some treatments of freshwater algae. However, molecular evidence for its separation from Chrysophyceae is not strong and IRMNG follows Ruggiero et al., 2015 and Adl et al., 2019 among others who retain relevant orders, families and genera within the Chrysophyceae; see also Di Franco et al., 2021, who note that Synurophyceae consistently nests within Chrysophyceae. AlgaeBase, 2021 version, recognises Synurophyceae as a class (after previously not recognising it), following some externally published source, however the latter is not necessarily binding or current. [details]
