Taxonomic remark From Kargopoulos et al., 2022: The systematic position of the basal gulonine Laphyctis is unclear. It has been classified either as a subgenus of Ischyrictis (e.g. [Roth, 1989, Ginsburg, 1961]), as a valid genus [Ginsburg & Morales, 1992] or as a junior synonym of Ischyrictis (e.g. [Peigné, 2021]). Recently it has been re-validated [de Bonis et al., 2009, Valenciano et al., 2019] and herein we follow this hypothesis. Nomenclaturally, Laphyctis Viret, 1933 is a junior homonym of Laphyctis Loew, 1858 (Diptera), currently treated as a synonym of Laphystia, however Laphyctis Viret is in current usage for the mammal species. A proposed replacement name, Helbingia Kretzoi & Kretzoi, 2000 has not entered current usage. [details]
