Taxonomic remark See Dreesenulella Vachard 1991 (Nomen. Zool.). Baculella Conil & Dreesen in Dreesen et al 1985 is preoccupied by Baculella Tendal & Hessler, 1977 (Foraminifera). After having proposed Dreesenulella as a replacement name in 1991, the same author later (in Vachard & Cózar, 2010) stated that the replacement was unnecessary on the grounds that "Baculella Conil & Dreesen ... was only described as a “microproblematicum”, and its assignment to the animal realm is not clearly established", and thus was available for re-use within Algospongia, which they describe as "Kingdom and phylum indeterminate" although use zoological nomenclature throughout (a position which is internally inconsistent). Later, in Vachard et al., 2016, they revert to the position whereby Dreesenulella is treated as the valid name for this taxon, with Baculella Conil & Dreesen as a preoccupied, and therefore unavailable name (in zoology). In botany, Baculella is not preoccupied, however the latest edition of the ICNafp precludes the use of zoological names in botany that were unavailable at the time of their original publication. [details]
