Taxonomic remark Initially described as a cyclozoan jellyfish. The Ediacaran genera Ediacaria, Cyclomedusa, and Spriggia may be junior synonyms of Aspidella, for additional information refer Mapstone & McIlroy, 2006, alternatively they may all be maintainable as separate form-genera. However Retallack & Broz, 2020 state that "Cyclomedusa may be a fossil microbial colony (Grazhdankin and Gerdes 2007)." Meanwhile Runnegar, 2021, states that Cyclomedusa represents a holdfast of Arborea, a conclusion followed in IRMNG at this time. [details]
