Taxonomic remark McGregor & Playford, 1992 and Zhang et al., 2001 list this as a valid genus, however Doweld, 2017, states in passing: Two other cited synonyms of Vestispora are “Periplecotriletes” Naumova ex Luber (in Pokrovskaja, Metodike Palinol. Issled.: 30. 1966) and “Periplecotriletes” Naumova ex Janson. & Hills (l.c. 1976: 1930), but as neither is validly published, and in any case postdate publication of Vestispora, they have no bearing on the conservation of that name." The significance of this statement and the names cited has not been researched further, but may have bearing on the validity of this genus name. [details]
