Taxonomic remark The family name Psilophytaceae has fallen out of use as some species of its type genus, Psilophyton, have been transferred to the zosterophyllophytes. Taylor et al., 2009 do not assign the remaining Psilophyton species to a family but treat it within the Trimerophytes; Gerrienne, 1998, and other workers treat Psilophyton (sensu stricto) within the family Trimerophytaceae. (Note, however, Psilophytaceae is still used as a valid family name in the Paleobiology Database as at February 2018), [details]
