Taxonomic remark "Porostromataceae" as used in Index Nominum Genericorum appears not to be a published name, but a modification of Porostromata Pia, 1927, a "section" of class Schizophyceae (now Cyanophyceae) as cited in e.g. Gnoli, 1979, Atti Soc. Nat. Mat. di Modena 110: 1-9 used for certain calcified fossil cyanophytes, not to be confused with Porostomata Bergh, 1878 in Animalia, a superfamily of dorid nudibranchs. "Porostomata" (as used for fossil cyanophytes) is sometimes used as an informal grouping in modern usage, however the genera concerned are believed to be referable to the Oscillatoriales, although some may also belong to the Chlorophyta (green algae) according to Schlagintweit et al., 2004.
