Cited synonymy is varied: listed as syn. of Loiseleuria in Willis, 1973, Azalea Linnaeus (now Rhododendron) in Index Nominum Genericorum, and Kalmia L. in Plants of the World Online. Goetsch et al. (2005) placed Tsutsusi (Sweet) Pojarkova (?=Tsutsusi Adanson) as a section of Rhododendron subg. Azaleastrum, while Kron et al., 2008 include Loiseleuria within Kalmia.
