Taxonomic remark Included as an accepted genus in Plesiadapidae (Primates) in PaleoBiology Database (2022 version) "according to G. G. Simpson 1940", however a synonym of Ailuravus (Rodentia) according to Wood, 1976 and McKenna & Bell, 1997, presently followed in IRMNG. From Wood, 1976: WeigeIt (1933 b) reported on excellent material of primates from the GeiseItal, near Halle-a.-d.-s., including a new genus and species, Megachiromyoides schliiteri, clearly establishing its distinctness from all other primates. This taxon was based on the lower jaws, much of the skeleton and a badly disintegrated skull of a single individual. WeigeIt later recognized that this was a rodent, which he considered to be a relative of Marmota. [details]
