Taxonomic remark Recommended as nom. rej., vs. Leptopteris K.B. Presl, 1845 (extant ferns). From Herendeen, 2021: Brongniart established the genus Leptopteris Brongn. in 1829, providing a single illustration and a diagnostic statement in a key in his outline of the classification of fossil ferns. The genus was evidently abandoned by Brongniart since no species were described under this name, either in the protologue or subsequently. Although Leptopteris Brongn. is a disused and forgotten generic name, the name was validly published and therefore constitutes an obstacle to the continued use of its illegitimate later homonym, Leptopteris C. Presl for extant osmundaceous ferns. ... The Committee voted unanimously to support the proposal because the older name is unused and forgotten. [details]
