Taxonomic remark Family given as Mastigocladaceae in WoRMS (Mar 2013), Symphyonemataceae in CyanoDB (May 2011). Replaced with Adrianema by G. De Toni, 1936 on account of homonymy with Lithonema Hassall, 1845, however the latter is a pre-starting point name and has no status in botanical nomenclature; nevertheless, WoRMS and AlgaeBase treat Adrianema as current as at 2019.
