Taxonomic remark Published as a substitute name for Grateloupia Bonnemaison Apr 1822, non C.A. Agardh Nov 1822. The type is referable to Callithamnion Lyngbye 1819. (Index Nominum Genericorum). A homotypic synonym of Grateloupia Bonnemaison Apr 1822 according to Index Nominum Genericorum. From Schneider & Wynne, 2019: This genus, which was previously treated by Kylin (1956) as congeneric with Dasya, was reinstated by Athanasiadis (2016b), with Gaillona seposita (Gunnerus) Athanasiadis as the name of the type species. Gaillona Bonnemaison (1828) was a replacement name for the later homonym Grateloupia Bonnemaison (1822), and so Gaillona has the same type species as for Grateloupia of Bonnemaison, which was Conferva arbuscula Dillwyn. Conferva arbuscula has been treated as conspecific with Aglaothamnion sepositum (Gunnerus) Maggs et Hommersand. This latter name is now known as G. seposita (Gunnerus) Athanasiadis. [details]
