Taxonomic remark n.n. pro Mesonychoidea Osborn 1910 (Nomen. Zool.). Neave's treatment of both this name and Mesonychoidea is miseading and also incorrect: neither is a genus (and therefore should not appear in Neave) - Mesonychoidea is a superfamily, today treated as equivalent to order Mesonychia (a suborder in Van Valen, 1969). Authority for Mesonychia given in McKenna & Bell, 1997 as Matthew, 1937, proposed without specifying taxonomic rank; then as a suborder in Van Valen, 1969, the latter taken as the valid publication instance by current authors. As syn. of suborder Acreodi (in order Cete) in McKenna & Bell (with authority given as Matthew, 1937). [details]
