Taxonomic remark Available name (validatated by ICZN, Opinion 840). Rafinesque published the name Amblema twice, first in 1819 with the type species A. ovalis, with no description and therefore a nomen dubium, and again in 1820 with the type species subsequently designated as A. costata. The name Amblema Rafinesque, 1819 has been suppressed by the ICZN in order that Amblema Rafinesque, 1820 can stand as a valid name, instead of being replaced by Crenodonta Schlüter, 1838, its suggested replacement name.
