Taxonomic remark See Prodinophysis Balech 1944 (Nomen. Zool.). Would be a junior homonym in zoology (cf. Phalacroma Hawle & Corda, 1847) but valid name in Botany. Listed as syn. of Dinophysis by Fensome et al. (1993) and some others, but retained by recent workers including Gomez et al., 2011. A nom. cons. prop. in Andersen, 2023, who states: The name Phalacroma F. Stein (Organism. Infusionsthiere 3(2): 9, 23, 24. 1883) originally was published as an acceptable animal name (Infusionsthiere). Balech (in Physis (Buenos Aires) 19: 429. 1944) reported that Phalacroma F. Stein was a junior homonym of the trilobite name Phalacroma Hawle & Corda (in Abh. Königl. Böhm. Ges. Wiss., ser. 5, 5: 159. 1847). Nevertheless, until 2018, when treated as an algal name, Phalacroma had a status equivalent to validly published under ICN Art. 45.1. However, a new clause added to the Shenzhen Code, ICN Art. 54.1(b)(1) (Turland & al. in Regnum Veg. 159. 2018) rendered the algal name Phalacroma F. Stein an illegitimate later homonym. ...
