Taxonomic remark See Cottila Gistl 1848. (Nomen. Zool.). Incorrectly listed as a junior homonym of Olivieria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (and a synonym of Aphria) by Kammerer & Sidor, 2002, however according to Evenhuis & Pape, 2019, Meigen's name is simply a later usage of Olivieria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 without indication of authorship. Those authors state: Olivieria of Meigen (1838: 266) is a subsequent usage of Olivieria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830, and not a proposal of a new genus. The mistaken attribution appears to have originated with Gistel (1848: x), who treated it as preoccupied and proposed the (unnecessary) new replacement name Cottila Gistel, 1848. The errant author attribution was thereafter perpetuated in subsequent works. [details]
