Taxonomic remark n.n. pro Schizodon Waterhouse 1842 (Nomen. Zool.). Reig (1986:408) noted that Aconaemys is not separable from the Pliocene/Pleistocene form Pithanotomys Ameghino, 1887 at the generic level. If indeed the two are not separable, Pithanotomys would have priority as a name over Aconaemys (Wilson & Reeder, 2005). [details]
