Cavalier-Smith et al. give the authority as Skuja, 1848, apparently in error (Skuja's 1948 species are placed in other sources in Heterochromonas Pascher).

Taxonomic remark A homotypic synonym of Spumella Cienkowski 1870 according to Index Nominum Genericorum. Listed in Chromulinaceae (Chrysophyceae) in AlgaeBase, 2021, however if its synonymy with Spumella is accepted, that genus is in Ochromonadaceae according to AlgaeBase. [details]
