Not regarded as a replacement for Gilbertia Jordan 1890; see Appendix A in Eschmeyer 1990; type therefore not Plectropoma semicinctum Valenciennes 1833. Anderson & Heemstra 2012 disagreed with this interpretation, but Whitley clearly designated a type species of his choice; he mentioned the preoccupation but apparently based his conclusions on his knowledge of Australian species.
