Taxonomic remark Previously given its own phylum ("Vendophyta") in IRMNG, subsequently moved to Algae incertae sedis. Vendotaeniids are believed to be fossil eukaryotic algae, comparable to (and possibly members of) Rodophyta or Phaeophyta, but without definite evidence of their taxonomic affinities. By contrast, Vidal, 1989, has re-interpreted these fossils as sheaths of giant bacteria. [details]
