Taxonomic remark Name for the diatoms when treated as a separate phylum (=Division in botanical terminology). In the treatment of Ruggier et al., 2015, diatoms are treated as a class (Bacillariophyceae) within phylum Ochrophyta, however AlgaeBase (2021 version) returns the diatoms to their own phylum
Bacillariophyta, with Bacillariophyceae as one of three included classes (the others are Coscinodicophyceae and Mediophyceae), following the treatment of Medlin, 2016. [details]
