Taxonomic remark Originally described as possible algae (?Chlorophyta), removed from the plant kingdom as "pseudo-algae" e.g. by Vachard et al., 1989. Treated (along with all Algospongia) as Algae incertae sedis in IRMNG, although Vachard & Cózar, 2010, who treat all Algospongia as Protista, stated: "The [suborder] Wetheredellina are considered here as the group linking the Aphralysiaceae and Algospongia, and constitute eventually the boundary between the cyanobacteria and protista."
