Taxonomic remark From University Herbarium, UC Berkeley: Indian Ocean Catalogue: This family [Liagoraceae] was called Helminthocladiaceae J. Agardh (1851 [1851–1863]: VIII, 410) until P. Silva (1980b: 84, 85) pointed out that Liagoraceae Kützing (1843b: 321, 328) had priority. In view of its long usage, Helminthocladiaceae was proposed for conservation against Liagoraceae (P. Silva, op.cit.: 106), but the proposal was rejected by the Committee for Algae (P. Silva, 1993b: 707). [details]
