Taxonomic remark Nom. cons. Proposed for the fossil species previously referred to Skeletonema, including the then type of that genus (thus an illigitimate, superfluous name when proposed), subsequently conserved with that species, S. barbadense as type, with Skeletonema conserved for the exant species with a new type (S. costatum), refer Ross et al., 1996. Conservation of both genus names adopted as proposed in the St. Louis Code, Greuter et al. 2000, p. 146-151. [details]
