Taxonomic remark Initially described as a blue-green alga based on the spores, this taxon was subsequently shown to be a microsporidian by Komárek & Vávra, 1967 and 1968 who ascribed it to the microsporidian genus Gurleya under the never validly published name Gurleya marssoniella Vávra. Subsequently accepted in Microsporidia under its original genus name Marssoniella, refer Vávra et al., 2005. [details]
