Taxonomic remark Philippe (1993) considered Dadoxylon to be an illegitimate, superfluous, synonym of Pinites Lindl. & Hutton 1832, however this now appears to be incorrect, refer Rößler et al., 2014; however for practical use these authors propose that usage of the name is discontinued in favour of Agathoxylon. Doweld, 2013 proposed Dadoxylon for conservation over Megadendron Reichenbach, however this proposal was rejected by the Nomenclature Committee on Fossils on the grounds that Megadendron was not validly published and therefore conservation of Dadoxylon was not necessary. Dadoxylon (and Megadendron) are referred to Cordaitopsida by Doweld, however other authors e.g. Novikoff & Barabasz-Krasny, 2015 assign Dadoxylon to Araucariaceae, which is presently followed in IRMNG. [details]
