Taxonomic remark From González, 2009: The genus Tapajonites was erected by Sommer and Van Boekel (1963) to encompass Tasmanites-like forms from the Middle Devonian of the Amazonas Basin, Brazil, sculptured with protrusive, wart-like projections. The two species initially assigned to the genus were T. roxoii Sommer and Van Boekel, 1963 (type species) and T. mosesii (Sommer) Sommer and Van Boekel, 1963. Brito (1967b) transferred the latter species to Maranhites on the basis of its non-protrusive, “internal” thickenings. The status of Tapajonites remains doubtful, given the likely taphonomic origin of the sculpture, probably induced by pryritization [...]. [details]
