Taxonomic remark Substitute name for Calamopitus W.C. Williamson 1871, non Calamopitys F.J.A.N. Unger 1856. (Index Nominum Genericorum). Basionym: Calamites subg. Arthrodendron A.C. Seward, 1898. According to Reed, 1952, Arthrodendron was not validly published since it lacked a clear definition and had no type species assigned; later the same name was used by Ulrich, 1904 for a genus of fossil algae (now treated as a foraminifer). Replacement name: Arthroxylon F.D. Reed, 1952, the latter accepted as the correct name by Röβler & Noll, 2007. [details]
