Taxonomic remark Junior homonym of Halochloris Unger, 1843 (fossil Plantae); replacement name is Neohalochloris M.D. Guiry, 2017. Guiry, 1976 considered that this name was not validly published (no types designated for the type species) and proposed validation as Halochloris P.J.L. Dangeard ex Guiry, 1976, however later (2017) considered that the name was valid as originally published, although a junior homonym (therefore illegitimate) and requiring replacement. This taxon (as either Halochloris or Neohalochloris) is listed in AlgaeBase (2021 version) as a synonym of Chlorocystis L. Reinhard, 1885. [details]
