Taxonomic remark Sometimes also cited as Foerstia, although that name is considered a junior synonym of Protosalvinia according to most sources (e.g. see Taylor et al., 2009). The organism is of uncertain taxonomic affinity having been variously assigned to ferns, brown algae, bryophytes and/or early land plants (Nematophyta); current opinion is that it represents an early terrestrial plant and not an alga.
