Taxonomic remark Not validly published. (Index Nominum Genericorum). Originally described as a heterokont alga, reassigned to Haptophyta by Cavalier-Smith et al. 1996 in its own family (Reticulosphaeraceae) and order (Reticulosphaerales); Guiry & Guiry (Algaebase) place Reticulosphaeraceae within the order Coccolithales, following Edvardsen et al. (2000), however doubts remain over its true taxonomic position. [details]
