Johnson 1984 placed this genus in Percoidei incertae sedis; Springer and Raasch 1965, 104 established the family Lateolabracidae into which the genus is now placed; the name Paralabracinae Fowler 1907 was meant for Percolabrax but that lapsus not regarded as establishing a Percolabricinae.
