Taxonomic remark The type species, and therefore the genus, is invalid according to Wynne & Furnari, 2014 (re-stated in AlgaeBase). If this is the case then Sphaerochloris Hindák, 1988, treated as a junior homonym by Hindák, 1990 and replaced by Neosphaerochloris F. Hindák, 1990, is a validly published name and Neosphaerochloris becomes a superfluous replacement name, refer Wynne & Furnari, 2014. [details]
