Taxonomic remark Substitute name for Pterococcus Lohmann 1904, non Pallas 1773 (nom. rej.), nec Hasskarl 1842 (nom. cons.). (Index Nominum Genericorum). Listed as "Pterospermaceae (Chrysophyta)" by Silva and as a Prasinophyte in AlgaeBase, but considered a dinoflagellate cyst (syn. of Nematosphaeropsis) in Fensome et al. (1993).
