Taxonomic remark Originally considered fossil tabulate corals, now demosponges, refer Clarkson, 1999. Includes Solenopora, originally described as chaetetid but also considered a fossil alga. Following West et al., 2013, Chaetetes, the type genus of this family, is classified in Suberitidae, making this family name a synonym of the latter, although possibly not all genera previously assigned to Chaetetidae would now be in Suberitidae.
