Taxonomic remark Trace fossil (ichnogenus). Assigned to "? Coel." in Nomenclator Zoologicus; according to Han & Pickerill, 1994, previous suggestions of the maker(s) include a crab, arthropod and annelid; these authors suggest its producer may be a bivalve. They also dismiss the suggestion by Rindsberg, 1994 that Protovirgularia may be a junior synonym of Nereites. [details]
