Taxonomic remark Stated synonymy (of Sansanosmilus per McKenna & Bell, 1997) requires clarification. McKenna & Bell, 1997 treat Sansanosmilus and Albanosmilus (both Kretzoi, 1929, described in the same work) as synonyms, with Sansanosmilus as the designated name per Simpson, 1945 as first reviser, listing Ailuromachairodus in synonymy (therein, as syn. of Sansanosmilus). However Robles et al., 2013 state that Sansanosmilus and Albanosmilus are not the same, therefore which of these (if any) should include Ailuromachairodus as its synonym is now unclear. [details]
