Taxonomic remark Originally described as unresolved eukaryotes (in zoological nomenclature), distinct from Hacrobia, Telonema, katablepharids/cryptophytes, or Plantae; treated in Ruggiero et al., 2015 as a class (in an un-named phylum) within subkingdom Hacrobia in Chromista. Subsequently Schön et al., 2021 determined that Picozoa are best accommodated within Archaeplastida (=Plantae in IRMNG) as a sister group to red algae (Rhodophyta). [details]
