Taxonomic remark Erected as an inferred subgenus of Xanthidium (extant desmid), hence an unavailable name in botany. These fossils are now recognised to be dinoflagellates, not desmid spores, with White's 3 included species, Xanthidium (Tubiferum) complex now included in Oligosphaeridium, X. (T.) recurvatum or palmaforme now in Hystrichosphaeridium, and X. (T.) simplex now in Dapsilidinium, refer Sarjeant, 1991; assignment in IRMNG of Tubiferum to present Oligosphaeridium is an arbitrary choice among theses three options. [details]
