Taxonomic remark Radiolaria, variously treated as a subclass or order, were raised to a subphylum by Cavalier-Smith (1993), with the included classes Polycystinea (including Spumellaria and Nassellaria) and Phaeodarea. Phaeodarea have subsequently been placed within Cercozoa on molecular grounds, leaving the group "Radiolaria Müller, 1858 emend. Adl et al., 2005" which is currently treated as subphylum Radiozoa Cavalier-Smith 1987 emend. Cavalier-Smith 1998 emend. Cavalier-Smith 2003, containing 2 superclasses (Polycystinia and Spasmaria). [details]
