Taxonomic remark Taxonomic and nomenclatural history is complex, refer Skog, 1990 and Taylor et al., 2009. Taxon created for a lycopod now called Wathenia; the name Tanydorus is given in Skog, 1990 as a "homonym" (?error for synonym) for the pre-existing taxon named Hymenopteris, originally considered a fern genus. Tanydorus (and its proposed new family Tanydoraceae) are listed as accepted taxa within the fern order Cyatheales in Novikoff & Barabasz-Krasny, 2015, but this appears to be without foundation. [details]
