Taxonomic remark Rietschel & Nitecki, 1984 place this order in its own algal class, Receptaculitaphyceae, however other workers believe that receptaculitids belong in the Chlorophyceae, either within or sister to order Dasycladales. On the other hand, Nitecki et al., 2004, exclude receptaculitids from the algae (as the zoological order Receptaculitida), without however giving any higher taxonomic placement. [details]
