Taxonomic remark Nom. nov. for Batrachoides Hitchcock, 1858 (supposed trace fossil), non Batrachoides Lacepède, 1800 in extant fishes, however both Batrachoides Hitchcock, 1858 and its replacement name are based on a pseudofossil (ripple marks interpreted as a tadpole or fish trace) according to Häntzschel, 1975. The genus Benjaminichnus was erected to cover supposed traces of both fossil and Recent tadpole nests, however traces of Recent taxa should not be separately named. [details]
