Taxonomic remark Junior homonym of Mesophyllaceae Heeg, 1891 which is based on Mesophylla Dumortier, 1822 (Bryophyta). Both of these two names are illegitimate (Mesophylla Dumortier includes the type of an earlier genus, Nardia) but the names are still available for homonymy, refer Schneider & Wynne, 2019, thus Mesophyllaceae Athanasiadis is required to be replaced (replacement name is Mesophyllumaceae C.W. Schneider & M.J. Wynne, 2019). [details]
