Taxonomic remark Nomen novum for Kenellaceae Korde, 1973, a nom. illeg. since its type genus, Kenella Korde, 1973 is a junior homonym. Assigned to Cyanophyceae (Nostocales) by recent authors, although Kenella was originally considered a fossil rhodophyte, also placed in its own order (Kenellales), the latter formally synonymised with Nostocales by Molinari-Novoa & Guiry, 2021.
