Taxonomic remark Initially described as red algae, later allocated to Aoujgaliales (or Aoujgaliida), an order of Algospongia (Algae incertae sedis or Animalia/Problematica "pseudo-algae"); botanical treatment presently preferred in IRMNG (Fasciellaceae not Fascielliidae). Treated as a distinct family by Vachard & Aretz, 2004 (as Fascielliidae), but as a tribe of Calcifoliaceae by Vachard & Cózar, 2006; later again as a distinct family (as Fascielliidae) by Vachard & Cózar, 2010.
