Taxonomic remark Initially described as green algae (Dasycladales). From Vachard & Cózar, 2010: Because of their extraordinary abundance, their small sizes and simple morphologies, Beresellidae [= Beresellaceae] can easily be confused with chlorophyte algae. The representative[s] of this family were even included within the phylogeny of the Dasycladales by several authors (e.g., Kochansky-Devidé & Gusic, 1971; Herak et al., 1977; Deloffre, 1987, 1988; Deloffre & Granier, 1991). In older studies by Deloffre (e.g., in Bassoullet et al., 1979), the Beresellina were excluded from the Dasycladales. [details]
