Taxonomic remark Listed as valid family in Ruggiero, 2014, as subfamily (Prionodontinae) of Viverridae in Wilson & Reeder, 2005, and in subfamily Viverrinae in McKenna & Bell, 1997. Acceptance in Ruggiero follows Gaubert, P. and Veron, G. (2003). Exhaustive sample set among Viverridae reveals the sister-group of felids: the linsangs as a case of extreme morphological convergence within Feliformia.
