Taxonomic remark From Seyfullah et al., 2010: In a recent summary of the palaeoecology of cordaitean plants, Raymond et al. (2010) included M. bulbosum [now Whitaddera bulbosa, type of Whitaddera] within Cordaitales and reported it from the Westphalian A (Bashkirian) of Great Britain, citing Long (1977). The age reported by Raymond et al. is in error and we contest this inferred affinity. ... We conclude that this species is a bilaterally symmetrical lagenostomalean-type ovule produced by a hydrasperman pteridosperm, rather than a cardiocarpalean-type ovule produced by a cordaitean coniferophyte. [details]
